Investing referral bonuses in Canada

If you're opening a TFSA, RRSP or FHSA anyway, you might as well get paid for it. Two of Canada's best-known self-directed platforms both run referral programs, and the bonuses are simple: open an account, fund it, and the cash follows once you qualify.

The bonus shouldn't be what decides it, though. Pick the platform that suits how you invest, then use the code.

What to compare

Both are regulated the same way

Wealthsimple and Questrade are both CIRO members, and investment accounts at each are protected by CIPF within its limits. CIPF covers you if the firm fails, not if your investments lose value.

Fees matter more than the bonus

A $25 or $50 bonus is nice, but trading fees and currency conversion costs add up over years. Check what you'd pay for the way you actually invest.

Enter codes before you're approved

Questrade won't add a referral code once your account number is issued. Use the link or code from the start.
