About Rakuten

Rakuten is a cash back website that rewards you for shopping online when you use your favorite websites. Formerly they were known as Ebates. Rakuten purchased them back in 2014.

In Japanese, Rakuten stands for “optimism”. This is part of their core brand.

Rakuten has two websites, a US or Canadian website. Depending on where you are purchasing from you should use the appropriate website. Canadians can use the US website, as long as the store you are purchasing from ships to Canada (or you can use a border delivery / pickup service)

How do I use Rakuten?

  1. Log in to the Rakuten website (See below for our Rakuten referral code that will get you a nice sign up bonus)
  2. Search the Rakuten webpage for the website or store you want to purchase from. It will also show you the cash back percent and any other deals that they have.
  3. Click the Rakuten link for the website or store you want to shop from. This will let the store know where you came from. They will then pay Rakuten when you make your purchase, and then they will then pay you!

How do you know if Rakuten worked?  You can check back on your Shopping Trips tab.

You’ll see the amount of cash back that you earned with that shopping trip.  They also email you and say “Cha-Ching You’re in the Money” and tell you how much cash back you just earned.   It gets posted to your account after 2-3 days.

What Stores are on Rakuten?

There lots of stores that are partnered with Rakuten worldwide, that it is almost certain you can earn cash back whenever you need to make a purchase online. Canadians get access to over 750 stores, while in the United States, the number is over 3,000.

Some of the popular stores include Amazon, eBay, Macy’s, Walmart, Hudson’s Bay, Groupon, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Sephora, Old Navy, Kohl’s. and thousands more.

There are also lots of offers to earn cash back when you shop in-store, plus several coupons and discounts available.

They also give you a bonus when you sign up with a referral from a friends of family. Or you can use our referral below.

Is Rakuten a Legit company?

Rakuten is a legitimate business that has been around since 1999. They have helped over 17 million members earn over $3 billion in cash back rewards. The company has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, and they belong to the Rakuten family of companies.

Rakuten currently operates in the U.S., Canada, Korea, and Japan. They are paid commissions by retailers when you shop using the Rakuten app or website. These commissions are what the company shares with its members as cash back.

If you have any questions about your account, you can simply contact Rakuten customer service via live chat or send them an email.

Rakuten Referral Program

Depending on what website you are using. (Canada or US) Rakuten has two different referral programs and bonuses. Both right now are $30 when you spend $30

Refer your friends and they could get a pretty nice bonus.

I would always caution against referring family. Since Rakuten has been known to close accounts and take away bonuses if the people you refer are related to you or you have multiple people in your household with accounts.

Payment can be made by cheque or by PayPal. We recommend PayPal. It is fast and easy. Just link your account on the website.
